I grew up around dogs on a large property in NSW and have always had them in my life.
Over the past 15 years I have become very active in the dog world and thought I had a good grasp on our Canine Companion – how wrong I was.
I have read books on behaviour, attended seminars on different training methods including check chains, electric collars, positive and negative re-enforcement with “experts” who I thought knew it all. I have also been on the other side teaching Puppy Classes, Basic Obedience and Advanced Levels of Obedience, however I always felt something was missing.
I attended a talk by The Internationally renowned Dog Listener Jan Fennell who spoke about “Pack Structure and Good Leadership” this was an aspect I had never heard talked about on this level.
After purchasing Jan’s books “The Dog Listener” and “The Practical Dog Listener”, watching her DVD “The Dog Listener” and listening to her CD’s and then applying this method to my pack, I needed to know more.
I attended Jan Fennell’s Foundation Course in Canine Communication and was privileged to be invited to complete Jan’s Advanced Course in Canine Communication. By doing these courses I have learned the non-confrontational approach to the canine language and life through their eyes. I am now able to help others understand what has helped me to have a calmer, kinder relationship with my dogs.
Recently I took in an 8 year old dog with major issues. Toy Obsession, food obsession and aggression, human and dog aggression and loads of energy. My world was turned upside down.
Normally, methods used to try and change his symptoms would have been focused on his individual symptoms. By using my Dog Listening skills and therefore becoming the decision maker, I am able to relieve him of his stress by trading places. I can do this by applying calm, clear and convincing messages while communicating in a language he understands. This method taught me “Dogs fear what they don’t understand”
In my line of work I have seen many dogs euthanased for the above reasons but now I am able to save this dog’s life and many others from abuse or even death!
I dedicate myself to not only helping dogs but helping owners to understand their dogs.
I now have the missing link.
